TEAM REPORTS SUMMER 2010
Area Horse Trials Qualifier June 20th at Borde Hill
We were unable to put a team together for this event but were pleased
to have Hailsham represented by two individuals, one Junior and one
Senior .Our Junior was Katie Ann Hickling riding her lovely pony Jasper
and our Senior was Claire Penfold riding Slim Jim.
The x country course as usual was well up to height with some big spreads,
a tough course. Katie's Mum Alison walked the course and was shocked
at the size of the fences. Katie though really did Hailsham proud,
she had a dressage score of 44 and as this is not Jasper's favourite
phase she was very pleased with him. In the show jumping he tipped
one pole then it was on to the x country where Katie was very brave
and came home with just 20 jumping and a few time penalties. She finished
a very creditable 9th place which was a marvellous achievement!
This did so much for Katie's confidence as she is only 14 and was absolutely
thrilled to complete so we wish her all good luck for the future as
I'm sure she will do well. Alison was a very proud Mum if a bit stressed!!
Claire was riding a fairly new horse in the Senior class who has not
done very much. They had a good dressage score of 38.2 and three down
in the show jumping but Claire was pleased with the way he coped. The
x country phase took its toll on a few riders and Claire's horse hit
a fence really hard and pulled a boot off so she took the sensible
decision to retire him rather than press on and they will always have
another day.
I hope Katie Ann and Claire enjoyed the day as we were very pleased
to have them there for Hailsham, well done girls! I would also like
to thank Loretta and Rob for being there from 9am to 6.30pm fence judging.
Clubs cannot compete at qualifiers without providing helpers and I
am really grateful to them for putting in so much of their leisure
time for this!

Area Show Jumping Qualifier 13th June
The area qualifier was again held at Felbridge showground. We started
off with an original team entry but due to the dreaded flu certificate
rules with one of the horses being vaccinated 1 day too early, we were
reduced to two individuals. Unfortunately on the Wednesday prior to
the competition we were down to one with the other horse being off
colour.
So we were left with just me and my faithful Seamus. We were jumping
on the new all weather surface which is fantastic and we went clear,
also repeated in round two after the course had been raised.
The jump off course was built and again we jumped but unfortunately
had one fence down so were unplaced.
I am hopeful next year we will be able to field a team, perhaps even
two!!

Hickstead Show Jumping Teams at Royal International Horse Show
I am extremely pleased to say we were able to field two teams for
this event held in Ring 4 at Hickstead on Sunday 1st August. This competition
is for a team of three riders consisting of a Novice, Intermediate
and Open horse.
On declaring the teams the night before I discovered that there were
99 teams entered of which only three withdrew, with our first team
member going fourth meaning a very early start!!
We had mixed fortunes with Katie and Jasper jumping the only clear
round, so after the 1st round the course was raised to its maximum
height for each round (we think it was due to the amount of teams).
The course all day caused quite a few problems especially for the open
horses in which Jazz and Zeb were unlucky having just four faults. In fact out
of 96 teams only two jumped a treble clear!
I have to say that everyone jumped extremely well and it was great
to have several new members represent the club and for two junior members
to compete as well.
A big thank you to Sally, Katie Toppin, Jazz, Katie Ann, Debbie Hill
and Antoinette who made it a very enjoyable day. Here’s to next
year!!

Endurance Team Event
Over
the last few years a British Riding Clubs Team Endurance Event has
been held at Endurance GB's Lions Tail Ride in Leicestershire. Endurance
GB has decided to develop this Riding Clubs Team Endurance Event into
a national competition by introducing the concept of Regional Qualifiers
which will then culminate in a National Final.
At both the Qualifiers and at the Final, Teams will be asked to compete over a distance of 30 to 35 km (approximately 20 miles) at a speed between 8 kph (approximately 5 mph) and 15 kph (approximately 9.4 mph). Each horse must pass an initial veterinary inspection, complete the course at the required speed and pass a final veterinary inspection in order to be successful overall. Three team members out of the four must be successful for the team to be deemed as being successful and therefore be considered for the Final.
Our local qualifier is being held at Firle on the 22nd August 2010 over a 32km course (around 20 miles). If you are interested in participating in the ride or might be interested in participating in a future ride please contact Maria Elliott on 07786 965624 or email mariaelliott@tiscali.co.uk.
More information can be found on the Endurance GB website: www.rcteamevent.endurancegb.co.uk.
