On the 3rd September 2016 at Priory Court Farm, approximately 30 horses and riders took part in the HEC Fun Trec. This was a brand new venture for the Club, and thanks in particular to one of our stalwart members ‘Kay Kitson’ who is an avid ‘Trec’ competitor and ‘Official’, along with myself, Louise Baulch and Priory Court owner Therese Cousens, we designed a course to help and encourage beginners to ‘have a go’, also due to popular demand we squeezed in an extra class for more experienced riders also.
The wonderful facilities and layout of Priory Court made it easy for us to design the course, for our obstacle section, and the natural track for our ‘control of paces’.
For the orienteering section, to make it easier for beginners, all were given a pre-marked map with the route. This route took them along the Cuckoo Trail and followed a bridleway up into Abbotts Wood, where they rode a circular route, coming back out where they went in. All riders completed it safely and no-one got lost.
Lots of very happy competitors, plenty of compliments (which mean a lot – especially when you have all spent a lot of time planning & plotting), also big thank-you to stewards and helpers on the day, especially as most had no prior knowledge of ‘Trec’, all did excellent jobs.
